[Diary Point = Reporter Eom Ju-yong] U.S. daylight saving time for 2026 ended at 2 a.m. local time on Nov. 1. Clocks in the U.S. Eastern time zone were set back one hour, and since Korea does not observe daylight saving time, daily and financial schedules between the two countries will shift by an hour starting Nov. 2.

The time difference between New York and Seoul widens from 13 hours during daylight saving time to 14 hours after it ends. When it's 9 a.m. in New York, it will be 11 p.m. the same day in Korea, meaning New York's morning business hours now fall across the afternoon and late night in Korea.

NYSE regular trading begins at 11:30 p.m. Korea time

Regular trading hours on the New York Stock Exchange run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time. Converted to Korea time starting Nov. 2, after daylight saving time ends, the market opens at 11:30 p.m. and closes at 6 a.m. the following day.

During daylight saving time, trading began at 10:30 p.m. Korea time and ended at 5 a.m., but after the switch, both the opening and closing times are pushed back an hour. Investors checking U.S. stock orders or timing pending orders should also confirm the trading hours displayed on their brokerage apps.

Time difference with the West Coast grows to 17 hours

The time difference between Korea and the U.S. West Coast, including Los Angeles, shifts from 16 hours during daylight saving time to 17 hours after it ends. A 9 a.m. start of business there now corresponds to 2 a.m. the following day in Korea, making the perceived gap for meetings and calls even greater than with New York.

Those scheduling video calls with U.S. companies should be careful, as checking only the local U.S. time can throw off the schedule by an hour. Since the Eastern time zone (New York, Washington) and the Pacific time zone (Los Angeles, San Francisco) differ, invitations should specify both the city and date to avoid confusion over early-morning meetings that cross into the next calendar day.

Flight and reservation schedules should be reconfirmed by local time

Travelers to the U.S. should check flight departure and arrival times, hotel check-in, and rental car pickup times based on local time. While the end of daylight saving time doesn't change actual flight durations, the gap between the destination's clock and times calculated from Korea grows by an hour.

The next daylight saving time in the U.S. is set to begin on March 14, 2027. Until then, the NYSE's regular opening time in Korea time will remain at 11:30 p.m.
