South Korean stocks reflected a sharp selloff in U.S. semiconductor shares, amid concerns over U.S. AI regulation and a slowdown in data center investment. The benchmark KOSPI also closed down 6.02% at 5,059.69. Foreign investors were net sellers of about 1.9 trillion won worth of SK hynix shares.
In your account, look beyond returns to portfolio weight and borrowed money
Check each holding’s unrealized gain or loss and purchase price in the balances or performance section of your brokerage app. Then calculate how much of your total financial assets is invested in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix. If you own both, consider not only each stock’s loss but also how concentrated your assets are in semiconductor shares.
If you have used margin financing or a stock-backed loan, first check your outstanding loan balance, maintenance margin ratio, any collateral shortfall alerts and any scheduled forced-sale notices. In March 2026, South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service issued guidance on forced sales related to margin financing, urging investors to check when collateral ratios are measured, how advance notices are given and the interest rates charged by each brokerage.
Use filings and company materials to distinguish a price drop from a change in business performance
The Korea Exchange’s Market Data System provides price trends and trading statistics by investor type. After reviewing the day’s price action and foreign and institutional trading, search for Samsung Electronics or SK hynix in the Financial Supervisory Service’s electronic disclosure system to see whether either company has filed a new disclosure.
For earnings, visit each company’s investor relations (IR) page and review its quarterly materials for revenue, operating profit and updates by business segment. Samsung Electronics reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of 195.3 trillion won and operating profit of 107.4 trillion won on Oct. 29. Its official earnings materials said revenue rose 14% and operating profit 20% from the previous quarter.
Samsung Electronics’ IR page has quarterly presentations and materials for listening to its earnings calls under “Earnings Release.” A stock’s decline shows the impact on your account; earnings and filings shed light on changes in the company’s business. Reviewing them separately can help clarify what each tells you.
